Microsoft Project

Introduction to Microsoft Project

Microsoft Project is a project management software product, developed and sold by Microsoft. It's designed to assist project managers in developing plans, assigning resources to tasks, tracking progress, managing budgets and analysing workloads. Microsoft Project was the company's third Microsoft Windows-based application and within a couple of years of its introduction, it became the dominant PC-based project management software.

With Microsoft Project, you can create and manage simple to complex projects, taking control of every aspect of your project, from scheduling tasks and managing resources to reporting on and sharing project data. It's used across a wide range of industries, including construction, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, government, retail, financial services and health care.

The first section of this guide will introduce you to the interface of Microsoft Project. Learn how to navigate the tabs and tools, and how to set up your first project. The second part will dive into how to add and manage tasks, including how to organise tasks into phases and how to set dependencies. The third section will cover how to manage project resources, like people, equipment, and time. Finally, the last part of the guide will look at how to track project progress and make adjustments as necessary.
